Gstack: 23 Slash Skills for Claude Code

Garry Tan's opinionated eng-team pack for Claude Code. Free, MIT, and easy to miss until you add one section to CLAUDE.md. Here is the install, the trap, and the 10-minute start.

Friday is the tools half of The AI Debrief. One free Academy pick you can run today, one workflow to steal, and two more free tools if you have another 20 minutes.

In This Email

» gstack: what it replaces, what it costs, and the CLAUDE.md trap

» Steal this: a 3-step start that makes the slash skills appear

» Two more free tools: Graphify and Claude Code on Ollama

This Week's Tool From the Academy: Stop Inventing Your Own Claude Code Stack

Gstack

gstack turns Claude Code into Garry Tan's virtual eng team: 23 opinionated slash skills for the jobs you keep re-prompting by hand. It is MIT and free forever. Live GitHub stars sit above 134k, but the useful fact is the skill list, not the vanity number.

What it replaces: a pile of half-written CLAUDE.md rules and "act as my tech lead" prompts you paste every session.

Cost, honestly: $0 for the pack. You still pay for Claude Code usage the way you already do.

The trap: after install, the skills look missing until CLAUDE.md has a ## gstack section and you run ./setup. People bounce here and assume the repo is broken.

Steal This

10-Minute Start

  1. Clone garrytan/gstack into ~/.claude/skills/gstack, then run ./setup there.
  2. Open your project CLAUDE.md and add a ## gstack section that points at the skills you want loaded.
  3. Restart Claude Code, type /, and confirm the gstack skills show up. Run one real task (PR review or test plan) before you customize anything.

If the slash menu is empty, you skipped step 2. Fix that before you touch the skill files.

Two More Free Tools

Graphify

A /graphify skill that turns a folder of code, docs, or PDFs into a local queryable knowledge graph. No Neo4j. Install with pip install graphifyy (note the double y). Plain pip install graphify fails. PyPI is on 0.9.69, Apache-2.0. GitHub · graphify.net.

Claude Code + Ollama

Point Claude Code at local or Ollama Cloud open models through Anthropic Messages API compatibility. Needs Ollama 0.14.0 or newer (latest tag at check: v0.34.4). Trap: default context is too small; the blog recommends at least 32K tokens. Ollama's Claude guide.

Go Deeper

The full gstack walkthrough is already in the AI Resource Vault: Garry Tan's Claude Code Prompt. It covers the one-line install, the Think to Ship loop, and the verify hook that stops a turn from ending while your tests fail.

The other two picks have their own vault lessons too: Stop Claude Code From Re-Reading Your Code (Graphify) and Run Claude Code Free on Your Machine With Ollama.
